shop update!

how cute is this wedding dress?  this is the wedding dress to wear when you want to look like a princess at the ceremony but dance like a rock star at your reception! a cute note:  when i was cleaning this dress i found raw rice between the lace and the bodice.  most likely it had been thrown up in the air after the lucky couple was married and a few grains got caught on the dress.

shop update!

i was all set for fall colors but when these beautiful pink clothes came into my life, how was i not suppose to get excited about them?  i know of shop owners who save clothes for next spring.  i can respect that, but i just had to share these! check out the shop!

as seen before: vintage suit

i often think isla over at a fine day for sailing is the cutest thing i have ever seen.  i am jealous to no end on how she can rock a pair of vintage shorts.  seeing how excited she was when she scored her perfect vintage suit, i knew i was on track with this little pendleton number in the shop.  perfect for fall wardrobe no?  jacket could go with skinny jeans or skirt with a little peter pan blouse.

bits and bobs

this it the image i see everyday in our front porch.  i feel like i just love my midwest man a little bit more every time i look at it.  do you have anything that is just a classic image of your love?

before and after: vintage cabinet

this is the before photo

hello!  my dearest gave me this beautiful 1910s dentist cabinet for our anniversary.  i have always wanted a cabinet with many small drawers to put my chunky jewelry and lady bits in.  this one asked for a little help and i was up for the job.  i have been meaning to practice up on my wood work especially after visiting arieles's blog.  she really gets a girl inspired to pick up a saw and get it done!
my hope is to still find a creative way to finish the top as it has gotten pretty banged up over the years.  but here's what i have so far.

                                                                                        before

the piece was stained, then painted green and then painted this fleshy color.  someone even painted the copper handles!  the project involved a lot of paint remover and sanding.

                                                                  after

this photo is the closest to the actual color.  i chose to embrace the imperfection and not to try to over stain or hide the damage.  i also decided not to over police the copper handles.  i like how a little patina looks. after all, this piece is 100 years old and we are proud of that!  side not- they even painted over that adorable copper lock!

                                                                                after

i started to move in. its so nice to have a piece big enough for my chunky jewelry.

as seen before: hanneli edition

honestly, hanneli must be the queen of street fashion.  what she says goes.  so when she posted this cutie in a novelty dress i was thrilled, because i just so happen to be selling a very similar, fun, novelty print dress in my shop!  who wants to spend $50 to look like a hanneli muse? ;)

shop update!

i think its the little girl in me that still associates august with back to school shopping and early fall colors.  so in the spirit of those that are starting to get ready to go back to school- or are ready to start wearing browns again.  here is my newest shop update!

on the home front: flea market

here are a few photos from the flea market.  i seemed to have trouble grasping the magnitude of the swap meet with these photos.  there was still a lot of people and junk but i felt like it was missing the little something special it has had in previous years.  maybe the recession has taken its toll on inappropriate and unusual items, because there was a limited amount of edwardian bird exhibit, catholic last rites shadow box,  tables dedicated to black face, jackalopes, etc.  although there were still finds to be had and part of going is the experience so i can definitely say it was a success!
